  • smokey surf :(

My 92 ssr-x was blowing a bit of black or brownish smoke so just had it serviced (new oil, oil filter and air filter) but it still blows out smoke when accelerating. Does that mean it needs injectors cleaning or what? Cheers

I bought my Surf last month and its undergone an engine rebuild and still smokes like a steam train with black soot.

The glowplugs etc are all new.

I have thrown Redex in there and Cataclean. still makes sod all difference.

Fuel pump might need adjusting was the next step, although this may compromise performance, but seens as Im getting approx 20mpg regardless of motorway or urban then cant see it being anything but a positive attempt.

Also disconnected the EGR valve and blocked up the pipe, still makes no difference to power or mpg.

Or tonight I might disconnect the batteries, or pull the EFI fuse and reset the ECU to see if it re-learns the fuel settings.

Worth a try before playing with the fuel pump.

I put injecto clean in mine a few weeks ago, did bum all on the first tank, second tank went in normal and on the motorway I put my foot down and totally blacked out all 3 lanes with thick black smoke!
Felt just like the original Batmobile!
Still rattles and smokes, so I am going to try NRT this time, just to see what happens
