Whistling noise.

Getting a bit of a whistling noise from the rear of my surf. The closest i can describe it to would be someone blowing across an empty bottle. It only happens when on full turbo boost + heavy load. I first thought it was fuel tank, but noise didnt dissapear when i removed fuel cap. Anyone ever had similar?

If you've got a free flow performance exhaust fitted, is it possible that you're just hearing the turbo? I can hear mine under similar circumstances and would describe it as you are doing (never noticed it before I had the free flow exhaust).

No definetly not, its not a turbo noise it sounds like someone blowing across a bottle. I first thought it was a vacum build up in the fuel tank caused by a blocked breather or something but i removed the filler cap and it made no difference. Is there anything else back there running off vacum?

my exhaust makes that noise too... more of a whooshing than a whistling though.

try checking where the turbo and air inlet joint. there's a rubber section coupling the two together. Mine was loose and made a noise similar to yours.

My Vitara made a very similar noise, just like someone blowing on a bottle or pipe - I tracked it down on a windy day.. One of the plastic caps on the bottom of the nudgebars had fallen off!
