  • Cooling system

Just ordered service parts from milners so my local garage can do the service.
I've also asked them to flush the cooling system as on sunday for the first time since ownership I looked at the coolant via the rad cap ( the one with the compression button thingy) and the fluid is a reddish / rusty colour is this normal, the garage said there are different colours ? I think its rust ?

    Any thoughts ?

It's not unheard of that unscrupulous people put sealing gunk into an engine before selling a car to mask a leaky rad or cracked cylinder head. There have been a few Surf owners caught out this way. The scam is only revealed when you flush out the old coolant (having been advised this is a good thing to do!) leaving the engine with no sealer. Then hey presto, 2 weeks later you have a problem....

                Good luck!

Poor bugger, sorry to make you worry!!!

Idealy, you should flush the coolant and replace so you know its OK, but we get so many failed 2.4 heads so soon after they get sold and then serviced it makes you wonder.

The junk doesn't last to long, in away a better to get it out and know for sure either way about the head.

Check the coolant level a few days after its been changed, as you rarely get all the air out just by filling it up and leaving it.

Yeah - sod it may as well get it flushed, saying that I 've done about two thousand miles in it and been stuck in heavy traffic on the M6 and it was fine. I know there are differences on the old head and the new head but is there any differences that stand out on visual basis, looking in on the engine bay ?

                      Cheers

Nope, the differences are in the internal waterway wall thickness. No way to visually tell if the head is already fitted.
