How can you tell if the shock absorbers have gone? as my Surf seems very bouncy even when i put it on hard suspension, or is this normal?

    Thanks Pete

Easiest test is to just push up and down hard a couple of times on the car, let go of the car at the lowest point, and it should just come back to level, not carry on bouncing. Or find an empty car park, drive at about 10mph, and stomp on the breaks, it shouldn't bounce, just dive a little under breaking and not bob around when you've stopped.

Best bet is to compare with some one else's who's local to you. (or go for a test drive at a dealers....)

My girlfriend has just made a sugestion on how to get the car bouncing around, however, I think I would be hard pushed to concentrate on the shocks while the test is in motion

Having replaced my rear springs, I find I'm hard pressed to get the rear to move much at all, whether or not the dampers are normal or hard. When I stick the caravan on the back, the springs compress hardly at all. I'd look at your springs first as they could be most of the problem.

Thanks guys I had a chat with someone last night who new what the problem might be, he said switch ignition on but don't run engine, get someone to press the hard and soft swich, find the solanoide that is making the noise and then trace 2 bits of plastic piping ( its the same sort as the windscreen washers use) and replace as they are prob leaking, had a look can find the piping will replace.. apreciate the help guys Pete (shiny)
