Steveo asked me what the little black pad was that is wrapped around the turbo pipe, it is connected to the boddy work via a black cable.
It looks like the turbo is having its blood pressure taken.
    is it

Erm, thanks for that da SLUG man, but I have to admit, due to me being a bit of a non luinguist,
      That didn't help much!
But its the thought that counts

just to the nearest ground point, a bolt on the bulkhead.
It is removable, but as it has stumped stevo, I thought it was worth keeping on!
For what it was worth, my smurf did have a NaviBoy fitted, well, screwed to the dash, all the cables were cut under the carpet, so I don't know if it had anything to do with that???

Is it magnetic? It could be to ionise the combustion gases prior to combustion Sometimes it's easier to say, "I don't know" when I don't know!

will have to put my vhs tape next to it, if it wipes it clean i can say it is magnetic.
              taking your advice here,

              i don't know!

One little thought has occured to me. As a radio ham I get horrible static type interference from the turbo on my truck when I am using the HF (shortwave) bands. This is because the turbine shafts float on oil bearings and are therefore not earthed. Maybe the Japanese owner was a radio ham and it was an attempt to shield/earth the turbo. Hmmmmm.

G0RKF goes out to fit ferrite rings to turbo pipes!

looked all over the place, cant find out what it does or did.
                  So, in conclusion,

I give up, I am leaving well alone, but I know if I take it off it will do something BAD!!!
                  Things always do!
                  Ergo,
                  Don't know
                  Don't care
And more to the point, see below!!!!!
