  • Radiator under (over) bash plate

I tried to drain my radiator but failed at step 1. I removed the bash plate only to discover a second radiator almost parallel to the ground. This masked the main radiator so I couldnt find a drain tap. My questions are these, and I apologise if its in the FAQ or anything.
    1. What is this radiator? Guru Simon thinks it might be an optional "towing pack" where you have an additional transmission oil cooling radiator.
    2. How do I drain the radiator and block when this radiator is in place and I cant get at anything.
    It is a 1992 2.4 BTW

As stated it sounds like your air-con rad...there was some discussion some time ago about removing this without actually undoing the tubes, otherwise you'll have to fork out for ther air-con refill.

Do a search using the search function

Do you know if it is necessary to remove this to drain the rad? Seems like overkill just to gain access to a tap!

If I remember correctly, the air-con rad had to be removed but somehow leaving the tubes on so that you can get to the tap for the radiator. I can't offer anymore as my air-con rad is infront of the main rad

It seems to be just one difference with 2.4 vs 3.0.....I might be proven wrong on this, but after bash plate off on my vehicle I can clearly get to the drain tap for the main rad.

It would be ideal to put your vehicle type on your posting/avatar list so that people may respond to your vehicle accordingly

Thanks...I guess removing the fan and cowl will be a better option than to risk de-gassing by removing the aircon rad.

                        cheers

I managed to drain my rad via the tap without removing the 2nd rad, it a bit tight, but can be done.

                            Hi Paul,
Any tips about how to do it. How did you get at the tap? or do you just have very long thin arms and small hands?
                            Chris

On your back under n/s front of Surf, you can get you hand up round the back of the bottom corner of the main rad, sort via the side, through where there is a mud cover on the inside the wheel arch. You can then feel the tap, it just takes a couple of turns.

If this is not very clear, send me a message tomorrow and I'll give you my number, it might be easier I explained when I had the thing in front of me!
