Its wider, hasn't got any off the brackets for the coils and links, plus you need to make sure you get right gear ratio, but your old diff will fit.
Basicly no without lots of work. Get a Surf axle, (like the one of the Surf we are breaking........ )

he meant get the pickup axle if thats what you need, but the diff from your own axle would probably be needed in the diff housing.
he also implied that the pickup axle is not what you need, and that he has a perfectly suitable surf axle to sell
surfs have what Toyota term Light Duty axles, while bombproof they use 8" ring gear. Hilux's use the exact same size gear, though you must get the ratios matched between the front and rear diffs. Land Cruisers are adorned with even bigger 9.25" gear as far as I know, you just gotta love heavy duty

Jim's obsessed with LC's at the moment, while the LC diff is bullet proof, a 8" Hilux rear end will handle small block V8 power no problem. So don't feel inadequate!!
Did I get back to you about the axle? maybe it can be Surf-trained up to you.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

Originally posted by TonyN, yeah, the diff will fit fine in either axle, (if your diff is OK) but not worth it as the axle itself would need lots of work to get in.

well at the mo iam not sure what to do, thought about removing diff and getting it rebuilt with a better ratio for when i do travel on motorways etc but i have not looked in to any prices as yet!. what ever i decide i need to change both diffs to sort out the existing problem that i have of having an uneconomical final drive ratio. there is a front and rear axle for sale on e-bay from a pick up. if these went cheap enough it may be worth buying to use the diffs to put into mine. with having a new baby i whant to try and keep this as practical and cheap as poss or my better half will not be too pleased....
even though it is not practical for me to buy the axle(s) from you ( getting them from you) would you be able to give me a price what you would want for both front and rear???? also can post the drive ratio??
thanks and regads...........john.....CHEERS JOHN................

The LSD probably doesn't work anyway! they are mini clutch disc type that wear after a few years to leave you with a very lose LSD, or no better than an open diff.
You can buy LSD repair kits, if you changing ring gears, it'll be no harder to get the LSD rebuilt while they are in there.
If all you want is to change gears, there no point having my whole axle, I could just pull the diffs from each end and you can just swap them in your axles, it'll be a hell of a lot lighter and more chance of getting a Surf Train(TM) going. And you'll pay a lot less than buying the whole axle!!!
I still havn't got the axle codes yet, so we might be waisting our time anyway!!!!

yeah got o/d on. been trying to work out this prob for a long time.......then i did a little searching and found that the revs that i have at 60 mph is about right for the final drive that ive got fitted...my axle code is g145.
from what i have worked out i have a 4.875 ratio!!!!
so using this formular rpm=(mph x gear ratio x 336) divided by (tire diameter)
60 x4.875 x 336 div by 30 = 3276 rpm
iam reading about 3000 rpm at 60
so maybe my truck had bigger tyres fitted when in japan???CHEERS JOHN................
