  • Intermittent Trouble code 12 - pump changed

I have a toyota hilux surf 2LTE that is giving a diagonistic code 12. The engine check light comes on intermittently when I'm driving. At times it will not come on. When it does, I get a serious degradation in performance. I also don't get the green turbo light coming on when this happens.

I had the injector pump replaced thinking this was the problem. However, problem still persist. Can you give any idea what can be the problem.

    Any help appreciated.

In my research on the net, I found one place that showed code 12 as
    Timer control valve (PUMP).

At another site, code 12 was described as -- Knock Sensor/Circuit and Knock sensor signal - open or short in knock sensor signal.

The pump has 5 places where electrical plugs are connected, I don't know which one is related to my problem.

Any help appreciated in resolving this problem.

    Thanks

    Robin

You will need to disconnect the battery for at least 1min in order to re-set the ECU otherwise the fault code will still appear.

I already disconnected the battery for the 1 minute to clear all stored codes. Still the check light comes on intermittently with same code 12.

        Same Problem

Hi All, just registered. I have the same problem, however I did not replace the pump...yet. My mechanic told me to but I am thinking it over trying to make sure as there is a lot to do to replace the pump. My light comes on, loss of power and pump rattle. I checked the code and it blinks twice, pauses and blinks 12 additional times.

Try blowing the fuel line back through to the tank with compressed air (take the filler cap off first) it can sometimes be the filter on the pickup pipe it gets blocked and starves the fuel to the pump (happened with mine, it gave similar symptoms) and can stall the engine plus as this happens the turbo is non responsive as the ECU runs in limp mode (as such)
I'M ALWAYS IN THE SH'T, IT'S ONLY THE DEPTH THAT VARIES!!!!!!!!
