  • Rubbing sound....

I have a 1991 2.4 TD and within the last month a rubbing sound has appeared from the nearside front. But it is very intermittent and just comes and goes when travelling in a straight line. It sounds like the tyre is rubbing on the mudflap but this can't be the case because they are too far apart. When the noise is there for long enough you can sometimes stop it by pressing the brake.

I've had it in a local garage for a week, they replaced the ns steering arm but the noise is sometimes still there.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like the wheel bearing needs tightening/greasing or replacing.

      Similar problem

I have a similar light rubbing or catching sound from same area and have checked brake discs and pads. On my 1990 2.4 it wares off after 5-10 mins when things have warmed up. I am thinking to also check diff, bearings and also wondered if it may be something with free wheeling hub.
I would also appreciate some feedback.

Could be the brake disc wear warning doo dahs. (I cant remember the proper name for them). They are designed to touch the brake disc and warn you that the pads are getting low.
        It's only a hobby!
