  • Oil leaks at Turbo

    Whilst removing the air inlet pipes above the rocker cover to inspect tappet/cam clerances, I noticed a lot of oil build up in the air inlet pipe to manifold - almost pooling!). It could have been there a while as this the first time its been off in 10 months. I know the breather pipe from the rocker cover sucks in a fair amount of oil into the inlet system, could this just go straight through the turbo and build up in the inlet pipe?? Or is it more likely to be leaking oil seals in turbo? I guess these can be reconditioned or refitted?
    I notice an increase in smoke output when the turbo cuts in
    Cheers

    I would clean out the relevant inlet pipes and breathers then monitor wether or not the oil builds back up quickly, also keep an eye on the oil level.
    If it aint broke...........give it some more abuse!!!!!!!!
    I gave it some abuse.................and it broke!!!!!!!

      Yo, I've got the same problem, Piston rings are knackered basically, allowing to much gas into the crankcase.
      Cleaning the little filter inside the rocker cover helps. Mine was completely gunged, See piccies;

        So in that case it would require a piston ring replacement? damn, I can see my money fly away again....

          You can do it with the engine in the car with a little fiddling - cylinder head off, front diff out then drop the sump - need to undo the engine mounts, jack up the engine and remove the steering damper and tie rod to get the sump off however after that it's easy to unbolt the big ends and knock the pistons out through the top with a long piece of 1x1 softwood, change the rings and put it back together. - 3 day job at worst once you have the parts.

          Cheers
