A few technical questions.

1. What is the small vacum pipe that is attached across the metal inlet pipe for? When I disconnect this my turbo boosts ok, but when connected it will barely boost.
2. Where is the crankcase breather? How awkward is this to replace? My crankcase is presurising, will if I dont fix this could this lead to damage? Turbo oil seals etc?
3. My clutch pedal keeps sticking down on the floor, and i need to pump it and kick it about before it will come back up. Anyone any ideas?

2, the breather comes out the rocker cover, and goes into the intake the intake as it crosses the rocker cover. There is a fire trap in the rocker cover where pipe attaches, this could be full of sludge.

You won't damage the turbo, excess crank pressure usually comes out of the breather pipe joints, or seeps past the rocker cover gasket. It'll show up by making smoke as it suck oil out and burns it.

3, Mines done that, it was the worn seals rolling over and jamming as you press the pedal. Rebuild or replace the master cylinder.

Normally block/head are open via the oil drain holes, so no breather is needed. the fire trap is usually a wire mesh in the rocker box, where the pipe plugs in, its to stop a backfire in the intake setting light to your oil!

You can normally pull it out and clean it.

They can get plugged with gungy oil and stop the breather pipe working.

Rocker Box is another name for the cover over the camshaft at the top of the engine - rocker cover or whatever you want to call it.

The fire trap you will find if you take off the rocker cover and look at the underside of the breather hose.

Clean the whole thing in Parrafin.

No, easy job, hardest part is removing the turbo pipes then about 10 - 12 10mm bolts and off comes the rocker cover, clean it, reinstall it job done.

Just to clarify, the rocker cover is the bit that has the oil filler in it.

By the way, after I have been running offroad on beach sand mostly, I usually take out the air filter and blow it with air and find lots of sand. is this ok? I mean to blow out the sand.

I am worried that the filter will quickly become clogged up with sand as I go every second week offroad to places where the roads are mainly beach sandy.

It's a good idea, getting the airfilter clogged is not going to do good things for engine performance.

You might want to look at investing in a Snorkle, gets the air intake higher and away from so much of the sand, a lot of them also have sand filters in them anyway.

Not too bad a job, the filter itself is under a plate inside the rocker cover. Mine was completly gunged.
When replacing the cover use a new gasket and plenty of sealant around the edges.

are we talking about the small metal one across the engine and rubber tubes either end of it. If so its to do with the 4wd.
