  • Crank and sump removal advice please...

Further to my engine problems, see here...
    http://www.yotasurf-online.co.uk/pub...ead.php?t=9952

...it looks like I could now be looking at a broken crank. Not confirmed yet but does anyone know of any places to get a new crank from and how much it's likely to cost me? It's not something Milners list.

Also, what are the options for taking the sump off? Do you have to remove the diff/move the front axle or what?

    Thanks...

Don't know about where to get the crank - might want to try ukcylinderheads as they managed to source piston and bearings for me.

You need to drope the front diff out and undo the engine mountings then raise the front of the engine somehow (engine hoist to lift it or something like that) I jacked it up carefully on a bit of wood on the front of the crankshaft as I wasn't removing the crank.

    Cheers and good luck

      Thanks Andy,

I thought thats what had to be done but was kind of hoping someone would say "if you do xyz you can take the sump off in one easy step..." oh, well...

'fraid not. Been there and done it recently. Front diff is quite heavy and awkward to relocate when putting it back together. easier if you can get a mate to help. however it can be done. Undo the front driveshaft flange bolts. the front of the propshaft, the 3 bots holding the diff on and drop it down, there are also the vacuum pipes for the ADD and the 4wd indicator sender unit to disconnect. It will drop down then.

Also makes it easier if you undo the steering idler arm from the frame which allows you to pull the tie rod forward and gove a bit more clearance at the front.

        Cheers
