loose head bolts

Hello there - thanks to stevo's advice I have managed finally to unbolt the cylinder head on my hilux, and I have found that three of the bolts on the inlet side of the head (the ones outside of the cam cover) were completely loose, ie. hand tight! could this have been the cause of the head leaking, and what do you reckon the chance is of the head being warped due to these loose bolts?

it would case leaks, cast iron doesn't usually warp.
