Below around 2 to 2 and a half thousand rpm the turbo light will be off, above this it stays on.

Surfs with a turbo light have two rectangular lights on the rpm counter, one on the left and one to the right. One is the engine check light the other the turbo, later models have no turbo light

Nope - none of the 3.0's had turbo lights. You can sometimes hear a faint turbo whine, but its not nearly as pronounced as in the 2.4's where the turbo is on top of the engine. In the 3.0 its down the bottom left of the engine so the noise is less audible.

You can try Tanfied 4x4 at Tanfield Lea near Stanley on 01207 290524. That's where I got my Surf from and I think he does servicing etc. I can't say what he is like quality/price wise though, I do all my own work, that way I know it's right. Give us more info on the turbo light and we'll try to sus it.
You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

BDS Motors in Forest Hall (0191 268 2744) did the last service on my Surf and fitted new brake pads, used them for a while with different cars and never had a problem, very helpful people. I would recomend that you buy a filter kit from Milners for £12.50, I was charged £60 for them as part of the service. Steve (the Aussie who runs the garage) has no problems with me doing this in future.
