    Hello
    Couple of questions here.

First the easy one, does anyone know what the tracking settings are for the front wheels on my 92 ssr-x?

Second one, I've been reading the threads about cracked heads.
I've had the surf for about 2 years, it has always used water although it seems to be getting worse.
It also pushes white smoke out but you can only see this at night, when there are lights behind you, if you know what I mean.
Other than that it runs fine.

Anyone got any ideas, if it could be the head how do I get it checked?
btw, it just passed the mot

    Ta

Hi Stan the only sure way is to get the system preasure tested.
With the symptoms described it points to a head problem, had
the same, drove it for a long time till it finaly gave up.
Now its replaced it runs and drives like new, what a difference.
Any Toyota/"good" garage should be able to do it for you.
    Cheers Chris

As Chris says get a pressure test done on the water system. A cracked head will be pressurising above recommended levels. Watch out for coolant dumping into expansion bottle and over engine caused due to over pressuring; also oil in water and vice versa. Frothy air bubbles in the expsansion bottle out of the overflow pipe can indicate a head or gasket problem.

But if she drives OK, starts OK and doesn't overheat just keep a close eye on water levels and you could be OK. Watch out for the dreaded temp gauge shooting off the scale.....

Consider yourself v.v.v. lucky if it's only a gasket...don't think I've read of 'only a gasket' on this forum...sorry

Don't suppose you know the answer to the tracking question?

A faulty cap can let water escape into the expansion bottle till it over flows a bit and then when the water sucks back into the engine, it will seem like its using it. Buy a new cap and see how that goes first.
                cheers

You beat me to that. Also if there was water getting into the cylinder(s) you would see the white smoke in the daytime too. The smoke you are describing sounds like what had before I disconnected the EGR valve.
                  It's only a hobby!

                    Ok
I've checked the cap, that is fine.
There is no smoke to be seen in the daytime, or none that I can see. You can only see it when someone is following you at night, so it is picked up in their headlights.

                    What is this valve thingy?

Also, are those track setting degrees or mm?
