  • 2.4 Heads

Just wondering what is my chance of geting away with head problems? Greg 2.4 imported for a year or so by the Last owner. If it has lasted from new why will it go now its in the UK .Spent 10 years in main dealers myself but could not answer this one.

I dont think anyone has come up with a sensible reason why they go after being in the uk for a while. There have been a few theories such as different fuel quality or different coolants, unfortunately its just one of those things that we have to accept, shell out to fix it and then get the grin back when its all running nicely again.I have had to replace mine and it has been faultless since, just keep your fingers crossed!!

How much did the new head cost, and did you fit yourself?

I got my head from a mate who imports engine parts, he doesnt normally do surf heads but got one for me especially, i did the job myself and it cost me inclusive of all parts a touch under £700. I think the normal cost of a head is around £500 then probably another 3-400 for gasket sets, service set, head bolts, cam belt etc. It seems most people have paid around £1300ish for a garage to do it.
        Hope that helps
