2.4 upgrade.
I am in speaks with Diesel Bob at the minute. He reckons that he can get one sorted in the form of a piggyback box. He is getting a price for me. I'll keep you posted. You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

Van Aaken do not do one for the 2.4, nor does anyone else that I can find.
I received my upgrade box from Diesel Bob and wired it in on Friday, but it doesn't work. I was in contact with Bob several times yesterday but to no avail, it won't work. He said that the one he sent me was a newer version of the box he has supplied, having 4 wires instead of 3, so he is trying to contact his supplier of the original box to see if they can help, but they are not being helpful at all.
So the saga continues, as soon as I hear anything,I'll let you all know. You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

ok thanks, how much are we looking at for the non working (yet to be working) box you have. Just for reference?
Also, would putting bigger fuel injectors in solve the problem?

The box I have was £275+vat (£324 delivered). He said that this box is from a different supplier than he normally uses, as the old one were charging double for theirs. He is getting back to me on Monday, so I'll keep you posted about his findings. You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

No need to wait until Monday. Diesel Bob rang me this morning and now the upgrade is sorted. What a difference it makes. My Surf now has the go to match the looks. It feels like a new truck. Anyone with a 2.4lte engined Surf needs to get one of these upgrades. The 4 wire one he supplied me with is adjustable so you can trim it to meet your needs, eg. fitting an intercooler. You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

Full instructions come with the upgrade, but all you have are 4 wires coming from the box. An ignition live, an earth, one wire to the throttle position sensor (yellow/white) and one to the pump (red wire at the metering solenoid on the top rear of the pump). The wires to the throttle and pump are connected via scotchlocks (supplied). 2 sticky pads hold the box to the inner wing and Diesel Bob's your uncle (sorry!). You need to set the adjuster on the box to get a balance between power and black smoke. I need my injectors overhauling so my box is set at just about 1/2 the max power gain. Bob can uprate your injectors to cope with the extra fuel being pushed through under heavy pulling, so guess where I'm going soon?
Overall, the box is a piece of cake to fit and the gains are unbelievable, and Bob is very helpful and generally a nice bloke to deal with.
Go to www.dieselbob.co.uk or ring 01254 878790 and tell him Mick, the pain from Newcastle said hello.
The wire colours above are for my Surf, others may differ, but 10 minutes with a multimeter is all it takes. PM or email me if you get stuck, I might be able to help.
To give you an idea of the difference in power, I go up past the Angel of the North on my way to work. It's a long pull up the A1 dual carrigeway and I can normally just manage 65mph up it in kickdown if I hit the bottom at 75. This afternoon I went up at 75 and had to slow down for traffic.
I have yet to see what the economy is like, but I can tell that I'm not pushing the motor as hard just to keep up, so that has to be better. You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

Don't tell me, I bet your nephew plays number 8.You can take my 4x4 from me when you prize the keys from my cold, dead hand.

MickyB,
I shall look forward to your review, once you have had your injectors overhauled. Looks like something else to add to the shopping list...
thanks, andyL
