My surf 2.4 manual has the normal viscous fan (i think) but also seems to have an electric fan in front of the radiator behind the grill, but it doesnt seem to work , it may work when im driving but obviously i cant see it, is this normal for it to have 2 fans? The viscous fan turns all the time when engine running
Having replaced the head in May, very wary of it overheating and ,water is checked every day ,levels in expansion tank at minimum take radiator cap off coolant rust free and clean, Can anybody help re the extra fan and coolant situation

Yep, that's perfectly normal setup on the 2.4
The viscous will always turn with the engine running, its speed is however dependant on the engines temperature.
I know the electric fan is standard and think it may come on when the aircon is turned on, or if the water temp becomes excessivly hot. I'm sure a 2.4 owner can clarify this for you.

The small fan in front of the radiator on my old 2.4 used to come on when I started the engine again after about 10 mins when I had been towing or driving at speed. I never heard it come on while driving. It went off within 30 secs usually.

That fan operates for two reasons.

        1. If the Viscous fan can't cope and the engine gets too hot.
        2. For the AC radiator which is in front of the main radiator on the manual 2.4.

It is operated by a sensor on the thermostat housing for the cooling side, if you disconnect it the fan should come on all the time - good way to check that it works.

For the AC, you need to run the engine for a while with the AC on, it will kick in eventually because there will be no airflow over the rad and the AC thermostat should make it switch on.

        Cheers
