  • Towbar Plug

Just installed a Hayman Reese towbar on my surf and now have to hook up the wiring for the lights. Is there a specific spot I should wire this upto? I was thinking at the junction of the tail light loom. Does anybody know where this is and how to get to it or is there is a better (and easier) spot to take it from? A wiring diagram for the tail lights would also be most useful if anybody has one.

    Cheers

I think you may have to strip the boot panels out to get in there, also I dont think there are duplicate exlectrics running through so you probably will need to strip the other side out to get to the right hand indicators etc.

when my brother wired mine up, we dropped the tailgate, took off the edging strip at the rear of the load area, ran the wires up and along to the light clusters (which are easily removed) and wired up there, all in all, fairly straight forward, although my towbar actually came with the details as to which wire was t/light, brake light etc, and i can,t find it or i,d post it for you

Does wiring it straight from a brake light reduce the brightness on side when a trailer is hooked up. The blinkers would not be a problem but when the tail lights/brake light are on one side would be brighter than the other cause the current draw is greater. I've got the wiring diagram for the plug connection, its the wiring diagram for the car lights I was after.

        Thankyou

Thanks heaps for the wiring diagram, gonna have a go at it tomorrow so we'll see how things go. What do you mean by running a twin wire from Rhs to Lhs? Guessing its to share the load for brake/tail lamps or do u just mean for rhs blinker? Would gisya a tinny but it might be a bit cold 4 ya and might even throw a shrimp on the barbie!

the twin wire from rhs to lhs, was just copied from the details that came with the bar and as i was u/neath doing the nut,s n bolts i didn,t see much of the wiring but i would think you are right in thinking it,s to share the load,
              good luck with it,
