I've just bought my first Surf (and first 4x4), I love it, but and am a total novice to everything to do with them.

So far I've managed to figure out most things, but, I cannot get the boot open! I figured out that putting the key in the lock makes the window up and down, and that there is a handle inside, with what looks like a lock next to it, but the lock won't budge, and the handle does nothing!

Is it bust, or am I missing something?

I feel too stupid to ring the garage up and ask the guy how to open the boot, so, can anyone here help?

Am going to hide my face out of shame now. God, I feel stupid.

Also, the rear window sticks really bad on the way up and down, is this a normal fault on the Surf?

With the window all the way down you should be able to raise the lock button (same as you would a door lock), and then lift the latch to open the boot. If this doesn't work, take it back to the dealer.

Are you sure you havent operated the doors lock button on the drivers door console? It's basically a remote control kiddie lock.

As said window needs to be all the way down, lift lock button and then handle. Windows can become sticky, mechanism probably needs a grease and clean window tracks out and lube up.

To prevent over-stressing the motor, it is necessary to keep the window mechanism lubricated, how often you do this is due to how often it needs doing i.e. when your window starts going slow, probably more so in dusty enviroments, or after rainy seasons. To grease the window mechanism, lower the tailgate, remove the carpeted door cover, unscrew metal cover, remove plastic membrane, grease all moving parts, especially the bottom runner tracks (these seem to attract more dust/corrosion/moisture) to get at all moving parts, it will be necessary to move the glass, there are two ways, the safest way is to close the tailgate and operate the glass from the console switch (a torch is useful to spot all the greasable areas) get in the boot, and grease from here, or engage the locks on each side of the tailgate with it opened (this fools the window mechanism into thinking the tailgate is shut, to allow the glass to move) the glass can now be raised or lowered with the tailgate opened using the key(DO NOT OVEREXTEND THE GLASS WITH THE TAILGATE LOWERED UNLESS THE GLASS IS SUPPORTED AS DAMAGE CAN OCCUR). also use a silicone or teflon spray to lubricate the rubber window runners. The problem ended up being I wasn't letting the windw go all the way down! How dumb is that?

Anyway, the timing belt exploded last night, 24 hours after I picked it up, so its gone back to the garage anyway!
