  • MOT failure on Emissions

Hi all that dreaded time of year again for me and it all went a bit pear shaped The emissions reader just said error as it was to high I have been having probs with a bit of smoke, not regular smoking all the time though only every so often. White clouds appear and the road dissappears lol.

I'm not losing oil or water so I don't think its the head gasket. I am presuming white smoke is to much diesil being bunged through the engine, so would I be wise to try and turn the pump down like I read in a post somewhere on here? or should I just get a new pump? ANy other ideas? I'm a go play with something till it breaks

    Generally:

    white is water
    grey is oil
black is diesel being left unburned

If you are not loosing oil or water then... umm... that's as far a i know, anyone else got any suggestions?

Just gotta finish doing the next mod...

I think I adjusted the wrong bit, where the throttle cable pulls back that roundish plate theres a screw with a 10mm nut on it i turned that anticlock 1 full turn which I would presume is a idle adjuster hmm didnt cure it. I guess Thats not the max fuel bolt dam Haynes book of lies lol. I do lose a little engine oil but its definatley white blue smoke coming out of my pipe

Damn these dark 4 pm evenings !

smoke wouldnt be due to the additive I stuck in there to clean out the injectors would it ( REDEX) ? mind you saying that it was smoking every so often before I had tried it.

Assuming that you don't have obvious head problems such as loss of coolant/overheating, the white smoke might be unburnt diesel rather than just a rich mixture. That could be caused by an injector jammed open. Suggest you check the injectors for correct operation first and replace as necesary before messing with the pump or fuel settings. You are looking for a fine mist spray - not a stream of liquid.

Before any MOT, standard practise should be to give it a good thrashing up the nearest motorway to clear out the cobwebs.

        Cheers

A mechanic friend swears by Forte diesel injector treatment. You bung it in the tank, same as Wynns, Redex etc. I have only seen it once, on a market stall. By the time I got to the cashy and back it was sold out.
            It's only a hobby!

can also disconnect the EGR to lower the emissions
