1KZ-TE Cracked Head ?

Hi all, I have a 2004 Hilux with 1kz-te. Recently loaned my car out and water pump gave out while friend was driving. They kept driving for a while and engine promptly overheated.
Engine turned over fine so I replaced water pump, however once cooling system was full I started engine and it ran for approx 30 seconds before conking out due to at least one cylinder filling with water. (Water spurted out from radiator while running). After draining water it ran fine again, no smoke, etc. Oil is clean with no water. I am assuming the block is fine but suspect cracked head ? Someone told me it could be the head gasket but I think it is more serious than that ? Just want to know what the likely issue is and what parts I should get before taking the engine apart. Cheers.

I bought a sniff test off ebay ,put it on you radiator and if it changes colour you've got exhaust gasses in your coolant, the only way you can see whats going on is to take the head off if its cracked it will be easy to spot.No need to buy anything until you've taken it off ,mine cracked just out of the blue no overheating, I got a amc head off roughtrax 30,000 miles later no problems
