  • Oil leak in Intake Pipe. Bad Turbo bearing, or bad hose coupler?

Hello, I've always found great help from this forum (thanks!), and so I thought I'd give a question I've got a try:

I have an '88 2LT 2.4 and some oil has been leaking out of a coupling hose in the intake pipe just past the turbocharger. Upon removing the pipes to see just how much oil was in there (suspecting a leaking bearing in the turbo), I discovered that the rubber coupling was pretty damaged and had a hole in it. There wasn't a ton of oil in there, but definitely some. From what I've heard, a small amount of oil in the intake pipes is normal? My question is, how much oil is normal? Is this a case of the small amount of acceptable oil was leaking out of this bad hose coupler? or should I be concerned for the Turbo bearing, and have it repaired?

    Further info:

    - There is not "excessive" smoke from the exhaust, maybe a little more than usual (lately) upon start up.
    - The rubber elbow on the front of the turbo was also damaged and not fully sealed (someone did a bad job putting these things on).
    - I tried wiggling the end of the turbine shaft to see if there was any play-- it has a tiny amount of wiggle, but by no means a lot. Is a tiny amount acceptable, or is any play indicative of a worn bearing?

Hopefully these photos are demonstrative enough?

Any opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
