  • 3rd Gen 2.7 Petrol extreme guzzle - NEED HELP

Lately, my surf delivers a meager 8mpg. I changed the ignition lead set about a year ago and had it serviced twice in the last 6 months, changed spark plugs, new air, and petrol filter, and had the throttle body cleaned (had a lot of carbon build-up). However, its drinking is unbearable quite frankly. There are no engine warning lights, the engine runs quite smoothly with reduced torque though. There is a little white smoke at the cold start but clears with time. I've noticed that the exhaust fumes smell of a little petrol and the pipe has more soot than usual.
I have very limited mechanical/electrical knowledge.

It's such a good runner but its fuel consumption is likely to force me to set it on fire.

Any advice will do me much help.

I would have thought oxygen sensor if it smells like petrol but usally that would cause an engine warning light. How long has it been fuel guzzling for???

It’s been guzzling for just over a year.

Sounds like some sensor has messed up and is injecting to much fuel. Also could be the MAF sensor (mass air flow)
          hope this helps
