  • Surf Millage

Hi there, I'm new to this forum and was really just looking for some advice from those with more experience. I'm looking at an Surf on Saturday with just over 200k on the clock. It's well priced for this millage but I thought I would ask to see if any of you have any advice on what to look for when viewing it? Also is 200k a lot on these, or do they last forever?

    Thanks in advance :)

The critical thing is the cooling system. How well has it been looked after? If it has lost a lot of coolant at some point during its life, the cylinder head will be cracked and you'll be looking at a big bill. Check the Rad, the state of the coolant and all the connectors. Look for the tell tale signs of leaks - corrosion and dried antifreeze around connections. There are quite a few small hoses hidden around the engine - check these too.

Take the car for a decent test run. If the head is ok, the temp gauge should go to the middle and stay there rock solid, no mater how hard you drive it. You want to get it over 60 mph and push it hard - does the needle move? When you stop, is the expansion tank pressurising? Is there any oil in the coolant - look for "yogurt" on the inside of the filler cap.
