• Radiator exhaust gas Test shows positive - a gas leak plus bubbles

1994 Hilux Surf 3L diesel turbo SSR-X MODEL KZN 130 ENGINE KX, with about 166,000 km on the clock. : (I'm a beginner. Used to real old engines, never tangled with new ones (e.g. overflow tanks were a mystery to me - thanks Nev, I know now). ECUs, Air conditioners - all too new! and complicated, lol). I CAN use a spanner lol.

Hoping for news other than dreaded "cylinder head" and steps to take from here.
HISTORY first:
Bought this 14 days ago, no sign of issue, radiator fluid not creamy, oil fine. Sllight drip seems to be from power steering pump (1 cm track on ground after all night). Oil at 3/4 point between low and full.
Drove about a hundred miles, including a hjll no prob. Next morning more thorough check over. Rad was below the fins, Rad overflow tank full, but didn't know their function (till now). Filled main radiator. Topped up Oil level to full.
Checked rad water with cap off, rev engine, see flow - no bubbles, just flow.

Then, last day, drove about seventy miles up strong hill and pushed it a little to enjoy the power... OVERHEATED near top of hill, smelt hot first, then temp gauge just a millimetre under red. At top of hill (100 yards), looking for somewhere to pull over, temp gauge started going down again, and within half a kilometre down to normal...
Next morning Rad level down to fins again. Took maybe a litre to fill.

To be a good new owner, put rad flush through cooling system and oil fllush through oil system, refilled all, including emptying and cleaning overflow tank and filling to cold level. (Min, not Full). - I read Nev's post on this! Did a few runs to village, no issue. Used a bit of water - half a litre.
Next chance I got to take a 12 mile run with a hill in it, took it.
Overheated quite quickly (a serious hill). Had to pull over to let it cool, which it did quite quickly. Last part of hill, about half a mile, temp was going up, but made to the top and levelled off and it went back down to normal. It was late evening.

Next morning I looked for oil leaks - none. Radiator took 2 litres! Oh-oh. - I took an exhaust tester kit with me to see what was happening, drained level to allow space for gas and started engine. So much foam bubbled out I couldn't use the gas tester at first. It just kept coming. Eventually it stopped pouring foam and there was 'gas space'. Fitted the tester (tube with 2 bulbs that balance a small pool to level inside them) The blue test llquid turned green after about 5 minutes. Once it started to change it was quick.

OUCH. And it is my only transport and I live very remote...
Any suggestions, please, on way forward from here. I am LOW on funds too.

fyi - I had a 2003 Hilux d4d turbo for 15 years. Never used oil, never used radiator fluid. Only thing was chassis and underneath got a lot of corosion (not surprising where I live). Always been a toyota fan, since my life in Kenya where we had the proper old land cruisers with mud-guards over the front wheels/Vshaped bonnet, and kickflaps to open for blelssed foot ventilation -it gets hot out there - (unlike those things beginning with L.R. the germans bought, which give you some pathetic ventilation at eye level if it can get past the wheel on the bonnet!).
My old truck got Written off saving the lives of 2 black highland cows solidly filling the width of a moorland road in thick fog and sleet at night (invisible till I saw the horns) and had to take the ditch to miss the 'coos'... . Badly needed a replacement - I live remote, and had no transport. I went for this 1994 truck because its underneath was incredibly good, and MOT record fantastic. And older, to me, generallly means better built and simpler.
Now I'm finding even THIS has ECU, Air con unit, etc etc!
And what is that small round radiator in front of the normal one for?...
