Hi there, I’m a newbie and have had my Hilux Surf for a month or so now. It’s a 1993 2.4td automatic import.
It has a problem which I ask for any help and advice on getting sorted.
I was driving along, it cut out on me, revved up briefly then lost drive and cut out.
once I rolled to a stop, it wouldn’t start. Since then, I have removed starter, assuming it was contacts, replaced them, tested starter, functions well as it should, and put back on, only to have the same problem, still not starting.
I can see by lying under the vehicle that the ring gear is spinning when you go to start it, but the engine is not cranking/turning over at all...
Please would anyone be able to help suggest anything I can test or try to diagnose and fix. Would it be a faulty neutral switch?
I’ve peeled back the top of the timing belt cover and the belt looks to be on the pulleys still. Hoping it’s a cheap fix, but doubtful. The auto box has had thousands spent on it before looking at its service history.
Thanks I’m advance everyone
