At least you can see a 4x4 coming down the road?
When are they going to make jay walking an offence here, like in the states? When I work nights I park near Baker St. The lemmings pour out of Marylebone Station, across the the road, causing congestion because nobody wants to drive straight at them. The result: Cars, taxis and buses missing traffic light changes. The way everyone behaves on the roads in London needs to be addressed.
The ones that really get my goat are the cyclists that can't make up their minds if whether they are pedestrians or road users. They totally ignore red traffic lights as if they don't apply to them.
'scuse the rantIt's only a hobby!

I for one would be willing to use public transport more if:
1. It was necessary
2. We had an integrated public transport system [like holland, germany, switzerland]
3. Cheap, clean and reliable
4. Incidents like the following didn't occur:
Flew home from working in Zurich...[used to hop on and off trams every couple of minutes]. Got to Oxford Street station [think it is] from leaving the Manchester Airport Station to find that we were kicked off from the train because another group of people were late because their train didn't arrive due to technical faults. Next minute were put back on the train...couple minutes more and the train was passed back to the other group.
Instead of having one lot of irate passengers in the day..they have just now created two lots!!!
So much for PUBLIC SERVICE!Gaz

because of this genral consensus that 4x4s are a nuisance i tolerate it more when i get stitched up by another car compared with my van. i do this in hope that other 4x4 drivers dont get any abuse for any incidents that i may be involved in. but yet my van weighs twice as much takes twice as long to stop uses more fuel lets off more emissions but yet there is no pompas txxt trying to get these off the road. why is it like this i do not judge other peoples choice in vehicles so why should they judge anybody else???????get a life.....CHEERS JOHN................

Ive just sent them a (polite) e-mail, pointing out how many 4x4 drivers are moving over to bio diesel, and how much awareness there is of the environment amongst us. Will be interesting to see their response....

drive it in london?
I wouldnt dream of driving a 4wd in london. its dirty fithy, is extremely bad for the local enviroment and the planet. local temperature are aprox. 3 degrees C. higher, and even when its gone nothing will ever grow there again.
There has to be a more sustainable way to live, or this poison will destroy our planet.
I think we should ban london.it's in me shed, mate.

Just composing an email.....work in progress, feel free to add anything
While I do ,to an extent, agree with you about urban offroaders, your policies do seem to need a bit more thought?
For example - taken from your site:
"Also known as 4WDs (Four Wheel Drives) and SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles), these cars burn fuel at a rate that puts our climate at risk while also posing a danger to pedestrians (especially children), cyclists and drivers of smaller cars."
Yes the majority of 4x4's do have large capacity engines. What about the often unserviced cabs, vans, and lorries? do these pay over the odds in tax? Don't these pollute they enviroment?
"I go four wheel driving – (sure you do……) but even if that were true, cars make a big enough mess of our cities, why would we want them ruining the countryside and wilderness areas as well? Large vehicles do immeasurable damage to delicate habitats. Find another way to use your time"
Now you DO need to research the offroad aspect of this one. I suggest you look at the Green Lane Association website. There you can find lots of information on this subject.
"I tow a boat – Most larger sedans and minivans are capable of towing a reasonably sized boat. Huge motor boats are just as polluting as 4x4s so it’s not an excuse."
Ever owned a boat? No? Thought not, aswell as being an offroader (and no I don't live in the middle of a city either), I have also owned boats. Ever tried pulling a boat up a wet, seaweed covered slipway in a front wheel drive 1.6 litre minivan?
Now please don't get me wrong, I too am also sick of being stuck in traffic by someone on the school run who can't drive the vehicle they're in. But I think that you wrong in your total blame of 4x4's as the cause of all things enviromental or pedestrian safe. Err a 17ton truck/taxi/bus is just as likely to do a consderable amount of damage to a cyclist or pedestrian.............
I NEED TO OFFROAD!
