  • At last its done.....!

Finally did the jobs I have threatened to do since I got my Surf.

Flushed the cooling system, changed the oil and filters.
Well, the coolant was a dirty greyish reddish brownish liquid that looked like it could have been in there for years.
Anyway I flushed it through with the stat out until the water ran clean. Ive got to admit though despite the state of the coolant what I could see of the inside of the rad, hoses and engine water galleries it was pretty damn clean! Most UK market cars I have had the pleasure of flushing have all had a dirty rusty colour on the inside.
The air filter is fairly black and it was supposed to have had a full service when it arrived here at the end of July including antifreeze!

Anyway it is all done now and I can rest assured that it is. However, I have a worrying rattling /knocking noise when the engine reaches around 2k revs I'd swear it was not there before the oil change. I was told the oil I used was fine so now i'm not sure what to do.

As I mentioned when I first joined this merry band I have only had the truck since middle of September. Since then I have had loads of helpful advice from users of this forum and for that I thank you all.

Check your air filter some people reported that their new air filter rattles in the can when under revs.
I think they got them from Milners but I use their filters - no problem

Well I tried the air filter but the noise was still there until the engine warmed up.
Maybe I just needed to get the new oil circulated but I'm unsure if the oil I used is really up to the job. Or maybe the old oil had some kind of additive in it?
