What dose this do?

Hi all, I was working on the Surf at the weekend, putting in some
new Glow plugs, and I would like to know what is the round relay
box for on the right of the engine as you look at it from the front
with some big wires comeing from it? it is next to the glow plug
relay box, which is fixed to the body under the hood, the glow
plug box is square and this is round, any help would be great,

Glow plug timer.Well that's what I think it is.While someone else switches ignition on place your hand on it (the timer that is) and you will feel it operating.If I remember correctly it will click when ignition is first switched on and then again a few seconds later as it cuts the power to glow plugs.
