  • A Question For Angle Grinder Man

Are gasless MIG welding wire and flux cored wire one and the same?

In the absence of a bending machine, would you recommend welding mitred corners on a roll cage?

    er.......that's it for now!
    It's only a hobby!

Don't know about the wire for sure, but I wouldn't trust the weld on a gate let alone a roll cage, you can buy pre bent bends from suppliers if you want I'll get you a number from work on monday. I would reconmend getting hold of a decient welder for it, if you want to tack it together and get it to me I'll weld it up on a £5k welding plant at work and it'll be strong enough to roll in peace of mind. Are you putting it in a Surf?

      Yeah, they are same.

If you gottta make joins on a cage, its better to notch one end, and weld it to the side of the other bar.

You really need to have corners, a cheap pipe bender will get you out of trouble, just it takes time.

I would'nt worry about trying build a state of the art cage, its only on a Zuki, never more than a low speed flop, rather than a high speed roll!

Pre bent corners are the good, but you only need to buy a few and you'll have paid for a pipe bender, but if you welding is ok, they'll look better than pipe bender corners on tube, as it tends to kink the ends of the bends and flatten out the middle if you not carefull.

      Just have a go.

        Cheers chaps.

The welder is a 165Amp MIG. The tube I have was from Rick (Vagrant No2) and is the same seamed stuff that he has on his Zook. What I have done to, join the uprights to the horizontals, is grind a semi-circle the same radius as the outer of the pipe. They are now just T-butted together. Not pretty!!!! I figured that this would provide the greatest welded area and therefore be stronger. I'll post some pics in the basement when I get it finished.
The biggest hold up at the moment is the weather
