  • 2LT into a 2LT-E engine bay??

Hi Guys, I would like to replace my troublesome 2LT-E(EFI) with a non-efi 2LT. What will and wont work please.I understand the engine mounts etc are the same, but the rev counter is different. What else is there to worry about? Oh- its a 1990 Surf with the original 2LT-E.

      Hi Kiwi-jim

The 2lt is in a Grande Mark2 at the moment and seems to run well.It is an auto, but my old surf is manual-is this a problem?
I thought most Kiwi blokes would be watching Bathhurst! GO MURPH!!!!!!

it was just that if your surf was an auto it would need the engine computer to talk to the autos computer. GREG MURPHYS DA MAN!!! GO HOLDEN!!!!!

          Yeehaaaaaaaa

          Murph's gonna cream it!
See any other probs with the transplant? I was hoping to stick my buggered 'E into the car to sell off, but the car isn't EFI.

theres something about 5.7 litre V8s on the rev limiter at 7500rpm in 6th gear at 300 kmh that keeps you glued to the tv eh.
on the engine change the swap into the surf shouldnt be too much of a problem but an efi into the car would be tricky. you would need to remove half the loom to go with the computer. what condition is your motor in,if its mechanicaly ok id still try to fix it.

I think JimL has got a 2LT motor in his ex-efi truck, he had some trouble with the engine check light always being on cos of missing sensors, and having some of pipes and wires left over.

But it seems to work, I'd stick with the manual 'box though.

yeh but the swop was done by a previous owner so I cant point out any probs he had. It seems to be a 2LT I have now coz when compared to Nigels (Koi's) engine it seems to be a match. The throttle cable goes to the throttle unit above the pump at the front/pass side of the engine. The old air pipe from the turbo over the top of the engine still reads EFI just to catch out the bull****ters. I have the odd connector here and there which have no home to go to but dont you see that in most engine bays anyway. My rev counter doesnt count and the engine check light has been on since I got it maybe it just knows that the EFI engine has gone. A friend who served time at a Toyota garage reckons my engine has been swopped in from a home-market Hilux but I dont think there was a turbo'd Hilux engine pre '97 so if that means my engines only 6 yrs old yeehaa but I doubt it.

                So....
The swap: Seems I have one alrite but I didnt do it
Small issues: Maybe the rev counter and the check light
