3rd Gen Auto seems to hold back / brake when going slow

Recently noticed something unusual on my 3rd gen KZN185, it's an Auto model and it's not every time but maybe every few times when going slowly mostly in traffic, when either coming to a stop or just starting off the truck seems to almost feel like the brakes are applied and struggles to move as if it's being held back slightly, as in you'll select drive and it will struggle a bit to move forward, it will always move forward though.
Any ideas as to what this issue could be?

Have you checked brakes aren't sticking on, especially the rears.

Could be one of the shoes dragging on the drum slightly ?

That happened on mine.
Turned out it was the rear brake shoes binding on the drum after the local Toyota dealers had reinstalled the shoes and associated parts back to front!
It wasn't them that worked that out. Even after 3 attempts.

I have he same problem with my kzn185 Auto. It's usually when it's cold,it feels as if it has lost first gear. Like yours, it doesn't happen all the time.

Sometimes this issue is caused by the Autobox solenoids.

Use a paper clip to bridge the Te1 and E1 pins, with engine and ignition off, in the diagnostic port, next to the power steering resesvoir bottle.
Then go and turn the ignition key on (but not the engine). As you do that, the OD (overdrive) light will start flashing on the dash display. Count the flashes. IE: 4 flashes, then a pause, then 3 flashes. That means code 43.

Then post the code on here. Its worth a try since it's such a quick check.

Mine is solenoid n. 1, code 62, which I have bought but not yet fitted.

Thanks for that.
Remember bridging them terminals on my gt4! Just tried it out and nothing whatsoever comes up on the dash so assuming there's no faults at the moment.
Could possibly be binding rear brakes then?

Sure, it could be the brakes, as the guys suggested. Maybe have them checked. Also brake fluid being very low can cause tha sometimes.

However,are you sure the terminals were touching the paper clip?Even if the OD light didn't flash, you should have got the orange 'check engine' light flashing constantly on the dash.

Is you ATF level correct on the dipstick? (tested when hot)

And your ATF not brown/burnt?

They do sieze.

And then the seals can go, so oil gets on the shoes, and they don't work too well.

I've had both.

Just retried connecting the terminals again and just get a constant flash of the check engine light so assuming that means there's no faults that show.
Looks like it may possibly brakes then, although it's now not done it in a week or so!

Is you overdrive working? Does the overdrive light come on when you press the OD button?

Yeah, the overdrive lights up on the dash when I press it.

On a 3 gen, with the button pushed in the over drive is on (no light on), when the button is out the o/d off light will be on on the dash.
