  • Lack of Surfs...

    Hi all,

Sorry it's been a while... it wasn't you, it was me. You see I went back to Land Rover ownership for a while, I had to, I was writing for a Land Rover mag!

Anyhow, seeing as the Discovery has gone (along with Land Rover World mag), I'm now in the market for another 4x4, and naturally my first thoughts turn to Surfs. However, I've noticed that there seems to be a distinct lack of Surfs for sale compared to 2004 when I bought mine. Back then we were inundated with imports, Surfs, Paj's, etc but where have they all gone? On the Auto Trader website, there's only 5 Surfs for sale in the entire British Isles, surely they haven't rotted away?

    Haha!

No but they are an endangered species!

These days they are all being shipped over here to enjoy some decent weather in their retirement...

    A Land Rover magazine?
    ...is there really such thing?

Seriously tho', import your own, there are some great deals to be made.

    Good luck and welcome back.

Well, there's a coincidence, one of the 5 Surfs on the Auto Trader website is 2 miles from my house! A nice red 3rd Gen, and checking the DVLA MOT history website https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk...933.1353356266 it appears to have a had an easy life with only 2 MOT failures in the last 11 years!

Tashtego, importing is probably a good idea, but I lack the time and knowledge! Though exporting some of our UK Surf owners over to your neck of the woods to enjoy some decent weather sounds like a great plan!

BTW Diesel Weasel, thanks for the heads up, I bought a 3rd Gen Surf off the site that you linked. 3 months and 2,600 miles later and I'm loving' it!

Here's a link to my (new and unfinished), website on how it's progressing - hope that’s ok, admin?

Good find Damian! I read your site and noticed this:

"My father-in-law always tells me never to buy the best house in the worst street, instead buy the best house in the worst street".

                    O.... K....

If the shortage continues my old 2.4 will one day be worth more than I paid for it! (3K)

That settles it, mines staying, till its last surf standing. My pristine, no rust included 1992 Merceds 230E is even rarer, future classics i reckon.
