  • surf won't start...shakes violently in the process

hello all, i tried starting the surf but it had a weak battery and wont start. i brought another working fully charged battery, and now i can hear the engine is about to start but it just wont. and i see that it shakes violently.

    what could be the reason?

due vibrations, it could be an earth cable broken.

both mounts appear to be fine. and i doubt an electrical connection probelm becuase it cranks really well.

the real problem is the car will reach to a point of "almost started" but will never do. i can see foul smelling grayish smoke when that happens.

after draining a battery and using a battery with a high CCA (and alot of "almost starts" after) the car started. the grayish smoke instantly vanished and it now starts normally. weird! if anyone had an experience please shed some light on this.

Could have been a blocked injector or two, repeated attempts to start it as well as the vibrations might have cleared the blockage. I could be wrong though, lol

            Non start and shake!

Possibly had a small amount of air in the system and finally bled itself out!

blocked injectors??? they are new, less than a year old.

imma get someone to check out the whole fuel system (i suspect thats the cause), will report back if i get anything interesting

Have you replaced the fuel filter as it might be air in the system. Also the primers for the filters perish causing air to be introduced.

Glow plugs faulty or not getting power.

I would say the last post is probably the reason your surf won't start, having gone through exactly the same fault, I fitted 4 new glow plugs and bingo all ok. They cost £60 - £70.00 for the 4 from a car factors. You get lots of grey smoke because you are compressing the diesel into gas but not enough to create an explosion (that's what the glow plugs are for) when the engine gets warmed up turning over you will eventually get an explosion and it will start and restart while its hot.
