  • Anyone up for a fishing/camping/gearbox swapping weekend in Warwickshire?

Struggling to get the time to finish this off, and my arms are too fat to get to the bolts on the back of the flywheel/torque converter, so it's still up on the lift, with the transmission jack under it, waiting for 6 bolts to come off, then I can get the new one in.....

We've got a nice size field with a fishing lake in the middle of it, plenty of camping space, a workshop, a radio, a dart board, and sausages and bacon from our own pigs.

Would that I am not packing the house for a move. I would be up for a weekend away getting oily.

        Saturday?

I think we have matches booked from next week until about October, so most Sundays are out and as we don't allow night fishing, the regulars may get a little upset to find a load of tents up by the lake.

In all seriousness though, the truck has been off the road since January, and we need it working to get our cattle moved, as I don't really want to use our XC90 to tow them about.

I can't undo the T/C bolts or the connectors for the cooler pipes (I'll have to heat those up and get them off) but I just can't quite get to the last 6 bolts.

Then there's the job of getting the other one on.....

I'll get some bacon and sausages ready for a few folks then

Ade, Mark - what is your order - bacon, sausages and eggs are all from our farm, just have to get bread.

I'll get a chair for you Ade.

Cheers Robert. We have matches on both days that weekend, so we can't offer camping as the lake field will be full of cars and fishermen from about 07:00 each day.

Getting this one off shouldn't take too long, it's just I can't get to the last bolts, then I'll need help to take it off and get the other one in place.

It's staying as a whole unit, no need to replace loads of seals that way, but it's rather heavy and cumbersome, and I could use some knowledge on how to attach the T/C etc.

If it's not done tomorrow, it does cause me a problem for the following weekend, unless it can be a relatively early start on the Saturday so I can use it to move cattle on the Sunday.

Well, after even more searching, finding a thread that ended up with TonyN telling Vince how much he loves bench pressing transmissions...I got under the engine, attached a 600mm bar with a 22mm socket to the lower crank pulley, and got the bolts off.

Today's startling discovery though - one was sheared off which took me a minute or so to work out, since I could get the socket to lock onto anything, and the last one was finger tight and just came out....nice!

So, off to solicit some help in stabilising the box as it comes down on the jack! Oh, and heat up the oil feed and return pipes as they won't undo...

Andy my apologies, I hadn't realized you needed it done so quickly, Im a bit stuck down here for a few weeks, But if it takes longer than planned and your still in a predicament in a couple of weeks I should be free.
