  • Advice please, wont idle

Like it says, The truck wont idle, all went fine as useual on the shopping trip and the doctors but as I pulled into the doctors car park she cut out, started it and it immediately cut out again, and that's how it si, I did managed to get the truck home by selecting neutral, starting and revving the engine slightly and when the way was clear jamming it into drive and going, same procedure at every stop and turn, bl00dy nightmare,
Plus ya loose steering when the engine stops and you aint moving

I haven't had a proper look yet but first thought was a vac pipe come off, cant see anything amiss tho at a quick glance, but the engine bay is somewhat, (might be a time to do the IP seals as well,) crowded, so before I make a start on stripping away the gear any ideas?,, she runs fine when your revving,
    Cheer's, Ian

Thanks Robert, i'll have a proper look tomorrow (or when my sodding ear infection pain eases up) I sort of thought it may be a vac hose, I did check the usual suspects around the inlet manifold, there's one there that when it pops off the truck looses power, they all look in place though, will let ya know what I find,

Hi mate I'm ok apart from the earache and the surf, todays the first time I've felt up to having a go at sorting this "non idle" problem, after a good look round and finding nowt fell off, I stripped off the intercooler and maing ait hoses, still nowt visible just anout to give up when I spotted the small ling from that vac diafram unit had come out the linkage, looks like the circlip's broke or fell off,
Hoping this is the problem, enough for today, off for a bath and leave the eagles breakfast till tomorrow,
you should be able to see whats come out in the pic, the rod under the unit should be in that hole in the spring linkage

Yes mate, that was the problem, the spring clip had come off (gone forever) and the rod came out, simple thing but what a problem it caused,

Thanks mate, yeah it's back to its usual farm machinery self
Sorry to see someone's hit your truck though!, hope its repairable, the ordinary car always comes off worst though, a guy pulled out in front of my sons defender, Mercedes, wrote the merc off, bent the frame and shifted the engine sideways, the defender just had an outrigger bent and damage to the wing, hope you well and kicking?
