  • Help needed big time.

Evening all, need help with a none starting surf,it was running fine apart from a small fuel leak from the fuel line at the filter, all I did was change the pipe, started it up it ran for about 2 mins then stopped.restarted the engine but would not rev, sounded like air in the system, left it running and the revs where up and down. After a few mins it seemed to clear so backed it out of the drive on to the road, drove about 100 yards and died. It is now sitting at the side of the road dead. I've replaced the filter, replaced spill valve, checked all the wireing, bypassed fuel filter, ran fuel in from a bottle hanging off the bonnet. Used half a can of easy start no joy at all.cracked open an injector line and only getting a bit of fuel out of it.One thing I did forget,a week ago changed injectors and block temp sensor, and it had been a bit of a pig to start. Any help would be great, many thanks up front Mick.

Check the gauze filter that is fitted to the fuel inlet pipe on the injection pump. It is situated inside the adaptor that is bolted between the pipe and pump. Also check the 80 amp fuse on the glow plug circuit. If its blown then they are a pig to start, if the fuse has blown check the insulators on the glow plug rail.

Ok thanks for that will check tomorrow, if the pump has failed would it give the problems I am having. It acted as if it just ran out of fuel,no bang, nothing, just stopped. Thanks for the reply will report back tomorrow... Mick

There is also another gauze filter behind a sensor on the side. My mate Also discovered there are strainers on the high pressure injector hose thingys on back of pump

Morning, yes pipe is tight on fixing, going to check little filters today if it stops raining.one thing I did notice yesterday, when I hade the bottle of fuel hanging off the bonnet, and was spinning it over, it seemed to be getting pressure going back into the bottle, like the pump was pumping the wrong way. Is this possible . . Thanks Mick.

Check the fuel filler cap when released if its hissing. If so the breather is blocked

Thanks for that but it's a new filter and o rings.Bit of a long shot, but could it have an air lock in the pump and not allowing enough fuel through.Been looking through old posts and other places on the net and there has been a few that have found bleeding the fuel system a right pain and taken a very long time.Could someone please tell me the right way of doing it.Many thanks....Mick

You could try a priming bulb (like youd find on an outboards fuel line) and forcing the fuel in..

Start from the begining, remove fuel filter , make sure seals are good, fill fuel filter with fuel and re- fit filter. PUMP THE HAND PRIMER UNTIL IT GOES HARD, THIS MAY TAKE SOME TIME. Crack off the fuel return banjo then pump primer until you see fuel running freely from the banjo, re-tighnen banjo bolt. Firing order of the 1kzte is 1342 number one on the injection pump being bottom right nearest the block, firing anticlockwise. Crack the pipe nut on number 1 on the pump. Turn the engine over via the key in the ignition until you have fuel pumping out of the cracked pipe. Tighten the nut and crack the nut off at the injectors, again use the key to turn engine over. Once fuel is up tighten nut and then repeat on other fuel injection high pressure lines. Finally, check glow plug fuse and crank over, it should start.
