  • Flat battery symptoms - but no flat battery.....

    Hi everyone.

If I could pick your collective brains for a moment. My 2.7 petrol Gen 3 (ex Biohazard) has just started to act as if the battery is flat.

It isn't. Repeated turns of the key and it goes from a solenoid click to whizzing over and starting just like it always has.

Battery terminals are tight, clean and secure. I'll check wiring to the starter also. Aside from that, is there something specific I should be looking at? Everything else on the truck works as it should.

    Cheers

    Rob

Starter motor needs a solenoid rebuild kit from Roughtrax.

Mine would click but nothing else, occasionly it would start first time, it got worse and worse over 3 months. It became a 2 man operation to start it in the end unless it started first time which was maybe 1/15 times. One to be tapping the starter with a breaker bar and the other to turn the key!

Got the starter overhauled, along with the alternator for good measure and starts everytime now!

          Hello,

I had these symptoms with my old Liteace, I got hold of some replacement contacts for the starter and it cured it no bother. In fact, if I remember, only one side had gone, and I didn't change the other as it was a bit of a faff on the car.

Anyway, very cheap and easy to do, worth a look? All the best with it, Ron.

PS, While I was waiting for the bits, I found it would start fine if I rocked the car back and forth a bit in gear before trying again...

Interestingly, the problem has gone away for now and simultaneously the interior light has stopped working.

I can't in my head connect the two things but who knows. Electrickery and all that.....

Now I re read my original post, I see it's not that well explained. What I meant to say was it goes from a solenoid click sometimes, to a very very lazy turn over (like a nearly flat battery), to a normal startup. And any variation thereof.

Or at least it did until yesterday when it appeared to cure itself...... like that ever happens....

It sounds like your rover city may have a dead spot in the starter or maybe a moody king lead. When you say dead, you mean nowt at all? Have a look at the main thick live wire to the starter - have it off and thoroughly clean both terminals. Be aware that's a live wire, disconnect your battery first to avoid any comedy moments
