  • Narrower Wheels!

What?! I hear you shout. Well It's a project...
I'm attempting to turn my brothers old 96 Surf into a turn of last century racer sort of car. To make it look right it should have wooden spoke wheels but maybe not really safe, so I'm wondering about what is the tallest narrowest wheel that anyone has or knows has been fitted.
When I can I'll be putting an add up to sell the stuff I've removed, but I have to post something first and this is big unresolved query.
Some spacesaver wheels look rightish (Range rover and Q7) but then is the speed limit the tyre or the wheel as well (wondered if wheel could take a faster rated tyre)

Turn of last century 2000? or 1900 I assume. If the later there was not a lot of choice, some good examples in the 1000 mile Automobile club events of that year. These attempted to prove the car as relaible alternate to the horse as you will know. Many of these ran what look like 35" and some had larger rear wheels. The pictures around 1904 which I assume is the look the Surf chassis lends itself to, appear to again run 30" or 35" but as you say in a wooden wheel. Not sure what you will find to replicate these but I would love to see/follow your build thread. Please start a thread in the modification section for us bodgers to follow. Best of luck with this fascinating idea.

        Hiya Guys,
1900 is right era, not sure a Surf could play at F1, the ground effect would be negligible!
When I get some photo's together I'll start a thread on the build, at the moment it's just organised destruction....
