do you think that M/S after a time will build up a database with Q fixes compiled from complaints and error reporting regarding programs it dose not support.

That's an interesting question. MS must get hundreds of reports an hour from the crash reporting tool for apps that aren't theirs. I'm pretty sure that they're all automatically analysed to see if the crash may have been caused by some part of Windows (and thus a potential target for a future fix), but I've no idea if any of the reports are sent on to the respective software vendors. I'd imagine that some of the bigger vendors who are also MS partners might get some form of crash analysis data.

Sorry..rather check each update and do manually....my main box was bought approx 5-6yrs ago when the Pre-Pentium 4's was the top spec. I still have to get a test box set-up at work and until this has been done...have advised all users with XP to NOT install the XP2 or there will be repercusions from the email/internet and software download policies set in place [ie...remove permission to the Internet totally....and possible written warnings]

This has had to be done due to too many boxes having problems after users were trusted not to abuse the privileges.....No policies set on the boxes yet.
