  • is it worth it?

hiya folks, just a quickie, cant find anything on here about it, was wondering what would be the average price be to buy and fit a replacement 2.4 engine into mine, the cost of going to a garage and them not really know what the problems are with the engine can get quite extortionate.

would it be just aswell to sell mine and buy another surf?

mine is a runner but not how it used to be, lots of smoke issues, loss of power up hills, rumbling in fourth gear, as i'm no mechanic its got to the point where i just want rid, but still want to own a surf

    cheers

Anything done in a garage will be expensive.
Costs will vary depending on the colour and extent of the smoke.
Could just need a service and a bit of TLC
    But.
You may be better off cutting your losses and getting a newer one.

A bit more info on what is happening might help?
I think though once you start having doubts then it can take a lot of convincing to clear those doubts.
Personally I would be looking at a new(er) engine and not necessarily a toyo diesel.....

The vehicle is getting long in the tooth and depending on previous maintenance regime, you may be throwing good after bad.

My truck is no longer a daily driver and I have the relative luxury of not having to use the truck as I have other vehicles to call upon when needed.

I Suppose it depends on your circumstances and budget.
3rd gens are now available for good prices might be worth looking at the for sale adds

      I've got a decent 3.0T out of a '96 Surf gathering dust..

Comes with ECU all ancillaries and most of the wiring loom...
      More Lift.
      More Tyres.
      More Engine.
