Hi, I've just joined the forum having just encouraged my son to buy a 92 Surf SSR-X 2.4td. I previously owned a 93 Surf SSR-X 3.0td and regret selling it, so the fun has begun again.
Mike bought this as a project, so we're in no rush to get it on the road. I'm aware of the 2.4td head problems, but on closer inspection of the engine, it smokes heavily on start up (black smoke when revving up, white smoke when revving down?) and is blowing a lot of exhaust gases through the oil filler cap. I think the engine needs removing for re-building or a replacement reconditioned engine.
Can anyone out there recommend a good engine re-conditioning service in South Yorkshire or close, someone who knows these engines.
By the way, great forum, wish this had been there last time.
