Will this work as a trans cooler 2gen 2.4?

Hi chaps,
As the title really,
I want to fit a trans cooler and spotted this, looks like it should fit under the crossmember nicely but wanted to see if it was going to be ok from people with more knowledge than me (so pretty much everyone here!)

Looks like an oil cooler. There was a vogue for fitting behind the bumper, taking flow from the bottom of the main rad. Putting it under and near the hot transmission might not give you the desired cooling effect.
I believe a search of posts from Bogus and Apache will yield some good results.

Hi GW,

I have read most of the threads on the trans coolers, I don't want to mount one up in front of the rad and I thought it looked similar to the rover 75 ones some peeps have utilised in mounting in the valance my logic is that any additional cooler as long as it flows ok should help a little! Oh and it's cheap😊 like me.

Just another quick question regarding the pipe work,
Is it ok to use 10mm silicone tubing for the ATF it says it's rated to 180c ?

I wouldn't use silicone hose for ATF.

I have an old Suzuki gsx 600 lump in my shed and I'm sure it has a cooler like that still attached(wonder if it will be big enough?) either way will try and get it done this weekend before the boat towing weather gets here😊

YUP
well spotted 600 gsxf to be precise , but afaik it uses the same cooler.
As you can see it does fit quite well in the gap in front of the rad, and you have plenty of routes for the oil lines to flow round to the original pipes.
Nice large inlet holes on the banjo bolts too.

I am pretty certain that it will be ample size wise.

Vince, that hose is rated to 125c yet the silicone stuff I looked at was 180c is there a scientific reason for not using silicone? Other than price of course.

Whats the burst pressure rating of the silicone hose?

Normal operating temp of the ATF in the Surf is around 80c. I just prefer to use proper oil hose for er, oil.

This is the bumpf from the eBay ad (I was looking at quite a few different ones)
I just thought that the silicone was a better pipe but if I can use the cheaper rubber with no dramas then alls good😊 is it 3/8-10mm or 1/2-12mm I need by the way?
