  • Auto box question -Audi A8

Quick question to those on here brighter than me. I test drove an A8 today, and a few times when stopped at junctions, it felt as though the car was still in gear for a few seconds. It may be that I'm used to the DSG box on the Skoda, and this is what the car is supposed to do, but just wanted to ask if this is normal behaviour for an auto box.

    The car is a 2007 A8 3.0 Quattro with 95,000 miles.

    TIA

I have been looking at buying an A6 estate for tootling about in. After trawling many many Audi forums it seems some Audi auto boxes play up at the 150,000 mile mark.
Not all of them but a few.
95000 miles seems to be a pretty low milage for the car to be throwing up gearbox problems, are you sure of the mileage

Funny you should should say that, I was talking to an auto gearbox specialist the other month in Portsmouth, he was of the opinion that the new autos (>2000) arn't very good and often pack up at 70,000 miles....and judging by the cars outside his workshop he's got a point...

The Mrs has an 2007 Cabrio A4 with that engine, and quattro transmission. I drove it yesterday with your post in mind, but it does change down properly (it tells you which gear the box is in on the display between the dials) and felt fine. It's got the paddle change too if you bore of "D". It's on 70K.

I was going to get it chipped but after driving it back from the seller, I felt it to be plenty quick enough. One thing I did get done was remove the DPF (Shark tuning in Mansfield did this, they have a good rep), as I am told that was a potential downside.

          DPF removed ?
          Instant MOT fail.
If not now then in the very very near future.

I was about to post that DPF removal is an MOT fail, I suspect the cops will also enforce it with random roadside checks.

You dont remove it completely, you remove the internals and or vent through the core so its still there for a visual test.

Had mine done recently and an MOT last week showed no noticeable change in the soot levels test.
