air filter/sensor

Hay guys, how important is the sensor on the air filter ? I wanted to put on a different filter, ive had the sensor unplugged for a few days and it seems ok.

Does any1 strongly advise not to have it in ?

It's just a temperature sensor, keep it plugged in and tied up somewhere safe.
