As some of you may know I'm trying to restore the truck to a functioning and reliably switching 4wd.
The actual mechanicals appear to be fine, ie the front diff slider operates on the VSV'S, the low range engages.
I have tracked it down to what I thought was the issue being the transfer case actuator being full of water.
The actuator was removed and cleaned up and refitted.
However it did not shift into 4wd
I could see the motor was taking current by watching the dash volt meter drop but not shifting into 4wd.
I assumed I had assembled the contact disk back in the wrong position and as it tried to travel it was jamming against the stop.

Taking advantage of a dry Saturday I have removed the transfer case actuator and this time I have stripped it down and surgically cleaned greased and reassembled.
Everything appears to turn as intended but this time before slinging it back on the truck I stuck 12volts on the motor to see what happens.
    Nothing.
Only about 6 amps of current and no movement.
By contrast a window motor fairly whizzes along at about 1amp.
So I have stripped it down again and can see some end float in the motor probably about 3-4 mm.
I think it is seeing the current but with the amount of end float it is causing the motor to jam.
    What do you reckon ?
How much end float would you expect to see?
    Any other suggestions ?
    Ta.

    Well.
    It's all sorted now.
Some dick had put the magnets back in N N S S
    0.7mm end float

Waiting for the weekend to stick the actuator back on
    4wd fingers crossed
