I did it by breath only. I could hear / feel the air bubbling in the fuel tank. If you can't do that then it may be blocked. I never needed a compressor or pump.

Yep, they are easier and cheap!

Sounds like it needs a good priming anyway. Your battery will probably die before it fires up if you keep trying!

Surfboy is right, you need to rid the sytem of air before she will fire!

Currently your pump is just squeezing air and not sucking fuel up. You can get her going without an effective primer but its not pleasant.
The primer on my truck is knackered but I only found out after I changed the cylinder head last year.
To get around it, I filled the filter full of diesel and screwed it on. Remove injection pump supply tube and pour diesel in until tube is full and quickly put back on priming head. Remove tank supply tube and suck until you get a mouthful of diesel and quickly push back on to primer.
Crank engine and hope for the best.
As you have been using easy start you could try a squirt of that at the same time.
Do you know engines get "addicted" to easy start? Have you checked your pre-heating system?

      Good Luck

Thanks Mark, sound advice from you both. Im going to get back in it tomorrow morning and sort this air problem out.

Addicted to easy start?! I was also told today by a mate that its pretty bad for the engine. He instead said I could use a hair drier to blow warm air into the system.

You must have noticed the engine Rattle as she starts?
This is because easy start is very volatile and is causing engine damage(in minute quantities) every time you use it!!

Yeah for sure- horrible sounds! No plans to use it again.

Try taking ya fuel filter off again fill fuel filter with ATF n refit Fuel filter n prime up.
You'll need a hand to Bleed by cranking n cracking injector pipes (at the Injectors) at the same time ...
make sure ya batteries are charged fully !!
ps. A fine mist of WD40 into the air intake rather that easy start would help ....
              Good Luck

                    Gotcha

                    Good and bad news:

The surf starts! Poked a mini funnel into the fuel line directly to the injector and made sure the girlfriend kept it topped up with diesel as I (from a warm cabin!) cranked it over. Got all the air out of the system.

BUT now, there is a diesel leak. Its coming out of a little silver box with denso written on it. It looks like maybe the injector pump? Im unsure what it is but I have the 2.4lt surf. Can anyone shed light as to what it might be? Can I fix this myself? Or do I need to find some finds and head to the garage....?

                    Thanks

Is it possible wvo has congealed in the hose and I need to clear them? Im thinking to undo the fuel tank cap and then blow compressed air down the hose from fuel filter side to clear it.

Any thoughts on this idea?! Or anything else I can try to get it started??

                      Thanks
As you've already indicated ya been running WVO then it's more than likely there is some gumming up somewhere !!
ATF (as its n oil) in the fuel filter will pressurise as ya bleeding up n also Runs/ burns just like Veg oil ....

As for leak on the IP it sound like ya may have done a seal or two in while running a high % of WVO.
If ya can pinpoint the leak, "we" may be in a position to help n describe the degree of difficulty regarding a repair n procedure ...

This is a photo of where the leak is coming from. It is squirting out of the thing that looks a little like a spark plug (obviously I know it isnt..!)

It seems to be coming from the edge, where is screws into the pump.

I have only sent this photo to a garage who tell me it needs to come out to be repaired. Its going to be expensive they say....

This is a big job to remove the pump, right?

Thanks for all of your help so far guys

                            Fcuking garages lying little barstewards.
If you have managed to get your truck starts then you can change the o ring.
                            Yes it is fiddly
But it is doable without taking the IP out.

Roughtrax do a kit for the fuel pump
Change the squarish o ring on the top lid the one with the four Allen bolts.
The centre o ring under the "spark plug " is a bit more fiddly ie don't put any strain on the cable on this one
I used o rings I had from work
All in I think I spent an hour or so

For the time being you could pour some brake fluid into the fuel tank this will help swell the seals abit till you can get the seals.

I originally did a temporary fix using grips like shit sealant which was still temporary a year later.

This is sweet news! Ive been in contact with a friend (also surf owner) who says the same thing as you. He has also given me the contacts for a 'good honest' mechanic who maybe able to help me. I will order the kit from roughtrax and maybe have ago myself. If not, get the mechnic on it.

Unless there is anyone on this forum who does a little helping hand/private work in Norfolk?

How much (percentage) break fluid is needed? Does it too have issues starting when cold?

                                Thanks. Really, thanks!
