There I was this morning sat outside the bank waiting for it to open, suddenly .......Bump.......... An old codger backed straight into me. Luckily he backed square on to the Abar so no damage as he wasn't going that fast. But as I was sat in the motor thinking about what to say, he hopped straight out of his car and started to head for the shops, I got out and went to have a word but he just ignored me just like nothing had happened. Not so much as a Sorry or anything.
It makes you soooo mad, the ignorance of some people.

Funny thing was that he was so stereotypical of the old man driver, 90 years old, leather driving gloves and a trillby , and now he's got a dent in his bumper and a cracked light cluster.

    Andy.

Have you only just discovered the Surf's cloak of invisibility? It only works if you've changed your dilithium crystals recently but it's definitely a standard feature - people try to drive through me all the time.

I found another thing that makes you invisible.. towing a caravan. You approach a junction, your right of way they look see you doing 60mph towards them and then pulll out and do 45mph kin infuriating at least on my bike I knew they probably hadn't seen me.

I'm not sure of other opinions on this, however it might be a good idea to inform your insurance company about this - I hope that you got the vehicle reg - and also maybe the police.

Reason being, he might have got your number and when he gets home and sees the damage he might raise a claim and try to blame you. If you haven't reported it they could try to say it was because you were at fault.

It's illegal to have an accident and leave the scene even if there is no-one hurt. You don't want to get blamed for his mistake and get hit in the pocket - or worse on the licence if he reports it to the police. You don't always have to go through with any prosecution if you report it to the police, it just covers you in case he makes a report.

        Cheers

I'll keep this info in mind Andy.... I didn't realise people could be so devious. I'm such an honest Joanna....

He probably got home, saw the damage and didn't have a flipping clue how it got there....

Yep and generally that will be the case - however there are some nasty people out there - I'd like to say I'm just unreasonably cynical, however I have heard of it happening.

If you are involved in an accident which causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property, you MUST
              • stop
              • give your own and the vehicle owner's name and address, and the registration number of the vehicle, to anyone having reasonable grounds for requiring them
              • if you do not give your name and address at the time of the accident, report the accident to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case within 24 hours.

Nothing to do with crystals and everything to do with the special ceramic coating I had added in Tokyo. Had three separate incidents this very lunchtime, no sane person would try what those three monkeys did. I'm sure some people just have a death wish

I have personal experience of this, my neighbour backed into my car and damaged the indicator lens we were out at the time and as he knew this he just carried on with his journey, he told me about it when he got home and agreed to pay for the damage... no problem, job sorted, no need to fall out over it. However the local nosey git had seen him do it from her window and reported it to the police , next thing we know we have both been slapped with a summons for failure to report an accident, £60.00 and 3 points after arguing the point, all for a £5 lens from the scrappy...... so be careful

hold on? you don't need to report it to the police if there's no injuries??
surely the most he could get would be leaving the scene of an accident?

I know what you mean. I nearly T-boned a Nissan Micra that pulled out of a side road this morning. The lady driver must have had blinkers on. I ended up behind her but white van man in lane 2 gave her a few driving pointers!!
                              It's only a hobby!
