Problem With My Horn

I found lots of posts on the Surf horn, but none seem to address my problem. Mine seems to be an aftermarket airhorn set-up, with two bugles in the front left of the engine bay (where a second battery would go). There are clear hoses and a plastic Y piece involved. The horn makes a sound if the car has been running for a while, but seems to need a "recharge" or something (engine needs to have been running) before it'll go again.

The sound it makes is like a drunk tired old man who is feeling sick trying to blow a panpipe. I only use my horn to entertain local kids - it'd be useless in a traffic incident.

Is it damaged? How do I fix it?

If they are airhorns - which it sound like, it seems that the compressor is knackered. I'd just change them.

Alternatively it could be just a bad earth.

Sounds like an air horn i bought a few years ago. Totally crap. When you pressed the button there was a 2 second delay before you heard anything. Then it sounded like someone sitting on a set of bagpipes. Terrible. So swopped it for twin magnetic horns, which are brill.

try this. take off the clear hose from the commpressor, place a few drops of light oil down the hole the pipe connects to in the commpressor. bobs ya uncle! repeat this every 3 months or so and they should last for ever.
just added a set of tripple horns which i picked up in italy whilst on my travels, and also a claxon which i had gave me. fitted them under the front vallance near the indicators facing downwards (one either side) used existing wiring from original horns behind front grill (just uprated the fuse to a 25 amp)
my brother is a copper and has told me they are to loud( above 140 db) but i'm not a copper and i dont think they are!!

I did this after I read your post. I actually took the compressor out, gave it an external clean with WD40 & a toothbrush, squirted a little WD40 down the hole, followed a few minutes later with 2 drops of 3-in-1, cleaned the electrical connectors & dabbed them with vaseline. I blew through the hoses too. Hooked it all back up and got a very loud two tone blast! Deadly! But it only did it once, and hasn't worked again since, so I'll be buying a new one soon.
